Solomun is set to deliver another scintillating marathon performance in Los Angeles this weekend.
Produced by leading West Coast dance promoter Framework, the event originally destined for the Mandalay Generating Station—an abandoned power plant in Oxnard, California—will now take place at Downtown LA’s Exposition Park this Saturday, June 1, 2024.
Solomun, the renowned German-Bosnian DJ famous for his marathon gigs, will play a six-hour extended set, with support performances to come from indie-house gem Nala and local-favorite selector Julia Sandstorm.
Back in March, Framework revealed Oxnard’s retired power plant as the show’s previously TBA location, much to the delight of SoCal ravers. However, according to the promoter, it soon became clear that Oxnard city officials would “not be issuing permits” for the scheduled event despite “several months of diligent planning, negotiation and meetings.”
“After providing them with numerous amendments to accommodate their excessive requests, it had become evident that Oxnard officials were simply not in the business of welcoming our event and our community to their city, regardless of our proven track record of building safe and unprecedented experiences throughout the entire region and across the globe,” Framework wrote on Instagram, announcing the event’s new DTLA venue.
Though the new location at Exposition Park won’t feature an actual power plant, late last week, Framework gave fans a sneak peek of the unique production package they have planned for this weekend, including a towering stage modeled after the real power plant in Oxnard.
“When life gives you lemons, build a power plant yourself,” organizers wrote on Instagram alongside concept images of the new stage. Check out the teaser video below.
