Bass music maestro Spag Heddy has cooked up a five-course menu of OG dubstep tunes on his newest EP, The Big Boil.
Out now via Spag Heddy’s own Tomato Bass label in partnership with Create Music Group, the five-track EP sees the Dutch-born, Spain-based producer, DJ, and “spaghetti master” return to his heavy-hitting dubstep roots, one year on from the release of his debut album, The Noodle Effect, in 2023.
From threats of a bass-fueled meatball apocalypse on lead track “Revenge Of The Meatballs,” to pseudo-religious hymns on “R’amen,” The Big Boil strikes a delectable balance between fun-loving comedy and raucous brostep triumph.
Stabbing synths and grinding mechanical bass take center stage on previously released single “Gameplay,” bass house rhythms and digitized melodies turn up the energy on “Get ‘Em,” and “Sonic Beef” steers the EP to a dubstep promised land where filthy drops and boiling hot beats reign supreme.
“It’s been a year since I released my debut album, so it is high time for a new body of work,” Spag Heddy said in a press release. “With The Noodle Effect, I showcased more of myself and brought a variety of styles to the table that I had not shown before. In the void that came after the release of it, I’ve taken time off to reflect on my music path and gone back to find inspiration in places where I would look in the early days of my career.”
He continued, “Eptic, Skrillex, Knife Party, are some of the main musical influences for the spirit of The Big Boil EP, as well as very old (unfinished) songs of myself. This EP feels like Spag Heddy 2.0, continuing where I left off but with a refined recipe.”
Hailed for his simultaneously hard-hitting, melodic, and forward-thinking dubstep productions, Spag Heddy has been cooking up bass bangers since 2011, including official remixes and collaborations with the likes of The Chainsmokers, Krewella, and SLANDER, and originals that have earned support from Skrillex, Excision, Subtronics, and more.
