Spirit Airlines is the latest airline to announce that it will operate nonstop flights to Tulum, Mexico’s new airport in 2024.
The announcement made Friday sees Spirit join Delta Air Lines as one of the first two carriers to offer customers direct flights from the U.S. to Tulum’s Felipe Carillo International Airport (TQO).
This new route is perfect for ravers heading to popular destination festivals in the region like Day Zero and Zamna. Spirit is also notably the first budget airline to make this move.
Spirit’s nonstop service from both Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Orlando (MCO) to TQO will begin on March 28, 2024, the same day that the airport is anticipated to open to international flights.
These additional flights will grow the carrier’s international service at FLL to 26 total destinations and MCO to 11 destinations. The new Tulum route will also allow for one-stop journeys to the region for guests traveling from 53 other cities across the United States.
“Tulum is an increasingly popular choice for leisure travelers, and our direct flights from Florida will make a getaway to Mexico’s enchanting coastline more accessible than ever, just in time for spring break,” Spirit’s VP of Network Planning, John Kirby said in a press release.
To mark the occasion Spirit is offering introductory one-way fares from FLL and MCO to TQO starting at $149, including taxes and fees. This introductory fare will be available to book for travel from April 10-May 21, 2024.
