A new study from the music blog Bedroom Producers Blog (BPB) surveyed over 1,000 producers regarding their use of AI in music production, finding varied results.
The topic of Artificial Intelligence use in music is contentious with some producers refusing to touch these algorithmically generated programs and others touting them as genius shortcuts.
But BPB surveyed over 1,000 producers to find out their current use of these programs and how it affects their processes.
According to the data, around 33% have used AI in music production and were impressed by it while 15.7% have used it and were disappointed with its quality. 30.1% plan on using it in the future.
The overall feeling towards AI is not negative, with only 17.3% feeling averse towards its use and the rest either positive or neutral, but that does not mean producers are without concerns.
The biggest concern found is that AI would lead to less creativity followed closely by legal and copyright concerns.
AI mixing and mastering tools are currently the most popular application within music production with 28.66% using these programs already.
And while mainstream robot producers are pretty far off in the future, 73.1% think that AI music generators could replace human music producers in some way in the future.
