Tape B is back in his hip-hop bag, teaming up with Atlanta trap legend Zaytoven to drop their new collaboration, “Signature Sound.”
Released on Wednesday, the track continues the dubstep heavyweight’s penchant for bridging hip-hop storytelling with low-end wobble, opening with over a minute of studio tutorial dialogue from Zaytoven, who calls for bells, stabs, and wubs before Tape B obliges with a raucous bass drop rooted in the grimy dubstep sounds of the early 2000s.
“This song was originally inspired by the famous UKF dubstep tutorial, and I’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from that era for this song. I want the entire vibe of it to feel like something that came from the 2010-2012 era of dubstep,” Tape B said in a statement.
He continued: “When I saw a video of Zaytoven talking about his production process, I thought that him talking about the ‘wub’ sound was perfect for a revamped modern version of the UKF dubstep tutorial but in a new school way.”
The link-up with Zaytoven—the influential producer behind tracks by Gucci Mane, Future, Migos, Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, and 21 Savage—is the latest in a long line of hip-hop crossovers that have come to define Tape B’s “old school x new school” sound.
After breaking through with fan-favorite SoundCloud flips of Mac Miller’s “Loud,” Flatbush Zombies’ “222,” and A$AP Rocky’s “Goldie,” “Trippy Land” with Juicy J and Mersiv arrived as the first official rap crossover from the producer and DJ—born Berk Alkanat—in 2024, and stands as one of his most streamed tracks to date with more than four million plays across all platforms.
