Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter has been revealed as the composer of the soundtrack for Daaaaaali!, a French film about the life of famed surrealist painter Salvador Dalí.
The film, which premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival, is slated for release on February 7, 2024, the same day Bangalter’s soundtrack will be released on Ed Banger records.
“Let’s start 2024 with something very special!” the label announced on Instagram. “Thrilled to welcome Thomas Bangalter on Ed Banger records for the release of the original soundtrack of DAAAAAALÍ.”
Described as a “real fake biopic” by French news outlet Le Monde, the comedy film from director Quentin Dupieux tells the story of a journalist meeting with Dalí for an “unproductive documentary project.” The iconic artist is notably depicted by several different actors throughout the film.
Dupieux–also well-known for several releases on Ed Banger under his electronic music alias Mr. Oizo–is said to be a longtime friend of Bangalter. Dupieux even tapped the former Daft Punk member for an unmasked cameo in his 2014 film, Reality.
The forthcoming Daaaaaalí soundtrack follows Bangalter’s Mythologies album, a classical composition created for a French ballet of the same name, which also marked the artist’s first solo project since Daft Punk split up in 2021.
Thomas Bangalter’s original soundtrack for Daaaaaali! is available for vinyl pre-order via Ed Banger records here.
