Time Warp Promoter Cosmopop Announces Partnership With Insomniac

Cosmopop, the German promoter behind the world-famous house and techno events brand Time Warp, has announced a partnership with powerhouse U.S. rave promoter Insomniac.

In a Resident Advisor interview published today, Cosmopop co-founder and CEO Steffen Charles said the partnership will see the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) promoter support Cosmopop in identifying and preparing new venues while Cosmopop will continue to run its existing events.

Charles told RA that the two companies are still settling on a joint workflow and that changes will mostly affect marketing tools and technology. He also said high costs coupled with low ticket sales, a loss of talented professionals in the industry, and younger crowds with less disposable income have made event production difficult for Time Warp since the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Time Warp isn’t an event where you can simply break even in a new city—it requires significant investment and a commitment to maintaining our uncompromising standards of quality,” Charles told RA. “Insomniac’s marketing power, experience, invest into the production and network are instrumental in making that happen.”

The brand’s flagship festival in Mannheim, which staged its 30th edition in April, will undergo no operational changes, while Insomniac will support Time Warp’s international development. Charles said the brand plans to continue working with its current partners in Brazil, Spain, and New York, where it has already hosted events.

Cosmopop’s other events include Frankfurt’s long-running Love Family Park and Croatia’s Sonus Festival, which welcomed two stage takeovers from Insomniac at this year’s edition. Time Warp has been held at Mannheim’s multi-level Maimarkthalle since 1995, hosting frequent players like Sven Väth, Carl Cox, and Richie Hawtin.

Following its Spanish debut in Madrid last weekend, Time Warp will extend its 30-year celebration and honor Väth on his birthday with a fall “Two Days, Two Celebrations” show on October 25-25. The brand will then return to New York City for Time Warp US on November 22-23.
