New Tulum Airport Gets Opening Date And First Airline Carrier To Operate

It’s about to become a whole lot easier to get to the esteemed party destination of Tulum as the opening date and the first airline for the new airport in the Yucatan town were just announced.

ViVaAerobus, an airline operating largely in Mexico, will be the first carrier to fly to and from the new Felipe Carrillo Puerto Airport in Tulum.

Furthermore, the federal government has approved that the airport will be open for operations in April of 2024.

ViVaAerobus has confirmed that local and domestic airports within Mexico will be the initial flight availability, but they are partnered with Allegiant Air in North America to offer connecting flights.

Once the airport has the bandwidth, they can plan direct flights from cities in the United States and the Caribbean.

The main goal of the new airport is to take some of the strain off of the airport in Cancun. Currently, those going to Tulum must fly to Cancun or another international airport in the region and take a bus or car a few hours.

But not only would the Tulum airport offer a more direct route, it would make ViVaAerobus the only airline with flights to all of the four international airports in Mexico’s Quintana Roo, increasing tourism throughout the area.

But there have been some environmental concerns about the new Tulum airport as the construction would deforest 1.3 million trees and cause 38 adverse environmental impacts. Noise pollution and destruction of habitat are also causes for apprehension.
