Uber will launch in Ibiza tomorrow, offering in-app rideshare options around the island under its standard on-demand model, as well as ride bookings up to 30 days in advance.
The launch will mark Uber’s first excursion to the clubbing hotspot, where taxis, buses, and other non-app hired cars were the only previously available methods of hired transportation.
The company has offered Ibiza’s local taxi drivers the opportunity to become registered Uber drivers, with 14 cars set to be available when the service goes live.
According to Diario de Ibiza, Uber plans to expand its Ibizan service with more cars in the future, in addition to rolling out rideshare offerings on the neighboring island, Formentera.
“As we do in other cities in the rest of Spain, we open the availability of our service to the taxi sector, to any other fleet of a company with VTC licenses or to self-employed people who have a VTC license,” Uber’s director general in Spain and Portugal, Fernández Aramburu, told Diario de Ibiza.
Uber’s initial launch in Ibiza will feature two ride types, Uber Comfort and Uber Van, which have capacities of four and six passengers, respectively.
Though the company will take a 12% commission from each ride, Uber will give new drivers a €150 bonus upon completing their first 25 trips. Drivers will be rewarded with another €300 bonus for recruiting other new drivers.
