United just announced the largest-ever expansion between the US, Australia, and New Zealand. The expansion includes one brand-new destination in New Zealand, two new long flights, and additional flights on three existing routes.
The result is an astounding impact on travel between the US and the “down-under” countries, increasing the number of flights by nearly 40%.
This expansion will also make United Airlines the largest carrier between the US and the South Pacific.
A new partnership between United, Air New Zealand, and Virgin Australia made these additions possible to offer nearly 50 destinations in the region.
The brand new destination is a direct service flight from San Francisco to Christchurch, New Zealand that begins on December 1, 2023. This will be the first nonstop flight from the US to Christchurch since 2006.
United is also adding a second flight from San Francisco to Auckland, New Zealand during the peak season and will connect Los Angeles to Auckland seasonally beginning October 28.
Furthermore, the airline will also add more services to Brisbane, Australia, adding flights from LA that begin November 29 and operate three times a week.
Flights from San Francisco to Sydney will also now be offered twice a day beginning October 28.
