Viperactive has opened the next chapter in Marshmello’s Joytime Collective label with his debut EP, Bout to Break.
Arriving on the recently revived imprint today, the seven-track EP punctuates a huge year for the emerging Arizona DJ and producer—real name Julian Gooden—who has taken the trap and bass scenes by storm this year as a new face of Joytime Collective, alongside its masked label boss.
In September, Viperactive linked with Marshmello to relaunch the label with their collaborative single, “In The Cut.” He soon followed it up with two more filthy trap tunes on the imprint, “Crazy In The Club” with DIMEPIECE and “Dead To Me,” adding to a 2024 resume that already included collaborations with genre legends like Flosstradamus and 4B and live support from Skrillex, Four Tet, and Steve Aoki.
Along with those previously released Joytime singles, Bout To Break features four new tracks: “All Day,” a face-paced homage to the “beatsy” style Viperactive says he grew up loving; “One Time,” a slapping collaborative cut with Strobez and rapper Vel Nine; “Underground,” a self-described “minimal playground” of trap and techno beats; and “Bout To Break,” an emotional liquid D&B tune that flips with enormous basslines on the drop.
“Trap and bass music is in a really great spot right now, and this project, to me, is the perfect example of pushing the envelope while also maintaining the catchy aspect of music as well,” Marshmello said in a press release. “So excited to welcome Viperactive to my label Joytime Collective.”
