The classic EDM industry-shaker “Wake Me Up” by Avicii has reached another milestone with a Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
“Wake Me Up” by Avicii is officially the highest certified dance/electronic song in RIAA history as an 11-time multi-platinum digital single, reaching over 10 million units.
Avicii is also the first Swedish artist in history to receive this award as one of the most prominent EDM artists in the genre’s history.
“Wake Me Up” was released in 2013 with its first play causing a stir at Ultra Music Festival in Miami as vocalist Aloe Blacc sang live.
Many fans reportedly disliked the bluegrass/country influence of the set at the time, but Avicii continued to push boundaries, adding a layer of emotion and positivity to dance music that is still, to this day, unmatched.
“Wake Me Up” shot to the number one spot on Billboard and iTunes charts in over 60 countries, silencing naysayers and still tugging at the heartstrings of fans ten years later.
Aloe Blacc said about the historic milestone, “Tim’s energy and effort in producing my vocal performance and other instrumentation really shows the passion he had for creating.”
