Many of us tend to live our lives in the fast lane: always on the go, not wasting any time, planning for the next move. We are constantly working, making plans for the next outing, or trying to hang out with friends. Suddenly, we are in a time when we are forced to change this routine… and change is HARD. Despite the temporary adjustments we need to make to our daily lives, it is important that we use this time to slow down and reset.
Although it can be easy to complain about all of the shows we will miss or how our vacation got cancelled, sometimes we just need a shift in mindset: we can still make the most of the extra time we have at home. We finally have a chance to breathe. To just be. To take care of ourselves physically and mentally. Some people feel that the world is on pause; but the reality is that we are still living and breathing and growing each day. If we use the lock down as a time of reflection and wellness, we will be refreshed and ready to take on the world when we are allowed to step outside our front door again.
Another thing we can do to reset us to spend our spare time purposefully on what makes us happy. Maybe it’s taking a bubble bath, or binging a Netflix show you’ve been meaning to watch, or playing board games with your family. Maybe it’s cooking one of your favorite meals. Maybe it’s playing Animal Crossing all day. Maybe it’s picking up that hobby you always wanted to try or that you forgot about. When life gets hectic, we sometimes forget that taking time for little things can bring so much joy. THIS is the time to take advantage of doing what you love while you have the chance.
If we focus on the positive instead of the negative, quarantine might not be so bad after all. And we will come out of it stronger and more ready to rave than ever.
