The village of Ollolai in Sardinia, Italy is offering remote professionals a chance to stay in the region for just €1 per month (around $1.05) as part of a unique cultural exchange project.
The project, named Work From Ollolai (WFO), is a new program from the municipality of Ollolai that aims to connect the region’s rural communities with the rest of the world, in order to “increase the opportunities for local students (and non-students) to learn more about the new digital professions, the opportunities of remote work and cultural interchange.”
The program is “seeking successful professionals who are eager to contribute to the community by sharing their knowledge through presentations, classes, or projects related to their respective fields, careers, or experiences.”
WFO is encouraging professionals and entrepreneurs with multiple years of experience in fields like technology, media, finance, real estate, and science to apply, but added that applicants need not be limited to any specific field.
In return, participants will be housed in either one or two-bedroom private homes for a monthly rent of €1, immersing themselves in the lifestyle and culture of one of just five “Blue Zones” on Earth–an area with a high concentration of individuals living beyond 100 years old.
Program stays will be limited to one month at maximum, but WFO will evaluate requests for longer stays on a case by case basis.
