The future of music just keeps getting younger.
9-year-old Essex, UK-based DJ Archie has just added another accolade to his impressive resume. After breaking the Guinness World Record for the world’s youngest club DJ at the age of four, he became the youngest-ever performer at the UK’s exemplary Glastonbury Festival last month.
DJ Archie may be young, but has learned quickly thanks to a music-filled upbringing from his parents. His father, John Norbury–a turntablist himself known as DJ Essex–noticed his son’s affinity for music when Archie first began DJing at the age of two.
“When I first DJ, I’ll get a bit nervous,” Archie told Greatest Hits Radio. “So that’s why I’m not doing that good, like, moving around. Well at the beginning, then I’ll settle into it.”
And settle in he did. The grade-schooler had the massive task of warming up Glastonbury’s Hive stage for D&B darlings Born On Road and absolutely killed it.
Archie also got to hangout with some of his drum and bass heroes including Zed Bias, Hedex, and legendary “new best mate” Andy C, sharing the highlights on Instagram.
Even more powerful than his skills on the decks are Archie and his father’s charitable endeavors, helping out UK non-profit Cash for Kids, where DJ Archie and others spun during a 24-hour dance marathon, raising funds for underprivileged children.
What’s next for DJ Archie? Going global. With his dad as his manager, he already has performances booked at the popular UK festival, Boomtown.
“We’ve got a few bits and pieces to do but I think the dream would be to do one of the big festivals in America, something like EDC,” said DJ Essex.
