ZHU just dropped his most ambitious project yet with his latest album, GRACE, a journey through the artist’s emotions of light and dark, tension and release, and uncertainty and peace.
The two-disk LP is incredibly emotive, utilizing single, live takes crafted at the iconic Grace Cathedral in ZHU’s hometown of San Francisco. The grandeur of the venue was perfect for the haunting tracks which features organs, string players, and even a choir.
ZHU said about the unique recording location, “I felt like I needed to go back to where I grew up to tell the story of where I’m going next.”
The standout single “Settle for Less” is beyond ethereal with vocals from Puerto Rican/Cuban singer Sabrina Claudio whose haunting voice perfectly accompanies ZHU’s sultry crooning.
But in typical ZHU fashion, there’s also plenty of dark and dramatic records like the electric guitar-heavy “Thrill Again” and “Rolling,” which feels like the unhinged energy of a dimly lit warehouse.
There’s even some Drum & Bass influence in the percussively interesting “Villain” and “Dragonfruit” with Emotional Oranges.
ZHU resumes the GRACE tour with a slew of summer festivals including Lollapalooza in Latin America and Creamfields Hong Kong with tickets available here.
