Governor Ron DeSantis will ban vaccine passports in the state of Florida.
In a press conference that was held on Monday, March 29, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that will induce an executive order to prevent businesses from implementing vaccine passports. Governor DeSantis is also looking for support from the Republican legislature to put the newly announced act into law. DeSantis also rejected the idea of another Florida lockdown after President Joe Biden released a statement early last week stating there may be more restrictions set in place as a result of the increase in recent COVID-19 cases. When asked about the idea of vaccine passports, Governor DeSantis had the following to say,
“We are not supporting doing any vaccine passports in the state of Florida. It’s completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine to just simply be able to participate in normal society.”
Florida is currently making changes to its vaccination requirements. Residents who are 18+ will have the opportunity to receive their vaccinations as early as April 5 and residents who are 40+ have been able to receive their vaccinations since March 29. As the country begins to slowly open back up, we are seeing a few states who are choosing to incorporate vaccine passports into everyday life, however, Florida will not be one of those states.
