Avicii‘s legacy will live on forever. The late EDM superstar, real name Tim Bergling, enchanted a generation with his music, and now a new documentary about his extraordinary life is in production. Shooting began in 2019 and the film is set to premiere in 2023.
The film will feature never before seen footage of Bergling himself including interviews and other archived scenes from his years on the road and in the studio. New material is being shot as well from family, friends, and colleagues of Bergling.
“My goal is to provide an honest and new perspective on both the artist Avicii and Tim’s life. I want this to be a film that surprises the audience and challenges the public’s image of Sweden’s biggest international artist of today and, in doing so, also shine a light on what his music has meant to so many people,” said the film’s director, Henrik Burman.
Bergling tragically took his own life in 2018 at the age of 28. Since his passing he has become a symbol of mental health in youth, especially pertaining to the music industry. His parents, Klas Bergling and Anki Lidén started the Tim Bergling Foundation in March of 2019 to support mental health awareness.
This month, Google honored Bergling with a heartfelt video on what would have been his 32nd birthday. Watch it here.
