The Grammy Awards Have Been Indefinitely Postponed Due To The Omicron Variant

The Grammy Awards ceremony has been postponed indefinitely. The annual gala, which honors the Recording Academy’s picks for the best music, artists, and performances of the previous year, was set to happen in Los Angeles on Monday, January 31 at the newly renamed Cypto.com arena.

Unfortunately, COVID infections in Los Angeles County continue to face record highs with over 26,000 new cases reported on January 5. In response to these sobering figures, The Grammys and CBS, the network set to broadcast the ceremony, shared a joint statement:

“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy® and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards® Show. The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night® on a future date, which will be announced soon.”

The Grammy Awards ceremony was also postponed in 2021 due to a spike in COVID cases and ended up being held on March 14, 2021.

RÜFÜS DU SOL, Bonobo, Tiësto, Major Lazer, ILLENIUM, Black Coffee, and Mura Masa are among the nominees in the electronic music categories for the 2022 Grammys. Click here to view the full list of nominees.
