Miami Beach will enforce a midnight curfew this weekend during Miami Music Week after two shootings last weekend happened amid spring break tourism. The Curfew will begin at 12:01AM on Thursday, March 24 and continue until 6AM the following Monday.
The Mayor of Miami, Dan Gelber, confirmed the new restrictions at a press conference on Monday.
“Our city is well past its end point. What we are watching and what we are feeling and what we are observing is simply unacceptable at every level,” Gelber said during the press conference.
Five people were injured as a result of two shootings that took place on Miami’s Ocean Drive this past weekend. Nine police officers have been injured since the spring break season began.
There is little indication as to how this curfew will affect Miami Music Week or Ultra Music Festival. The week long celebration is scheduled to begin as early as tonight with events happening all over the city.
According to the report from CNN, the restrictions seem to be limited to Miami Beach. Should this remain the case, Miami Muisc Week events in other areas of the city like Wynwood are unlikely to be affected by the curfew, and Ultra Music Festival ends by 12AM every night as well.
