Fans of Lane 8, Le Youth, and Yotto will love the dreamy progressive sound of ATTLAS. The Canadian just signed to Monstercat and has been releasing music on mau5trap since 2015.
Jeff Hartford, ATTLAS’s real name, began his love for music at a young age. He grew up playing in bands and learning instruments like piano, trumpet, and guitar—an influence that can be heard in his songwriting talents. He interned for a composer before applying those techniques to electronic music and then sending works to mau5trap.
Now his latest track “Over The Water” with Mango is here to showcase his musical chops. The piece is soft but melodic and has a warm and wavy quality to it, almost like floating on waves. The vocals are subtle and perfectly echo the tidal rise and fall of the main melody. The single is inspired by the beauty of Lake Huron, a place ATTLAS frequents for creative stimulation.
This track is a direct contrast to the dark, introspective tones of his 2020 project, Out Here With You. Out Here With You is raw and intimate, reflecting on the challenges the world faced navigating the pandemic. His earlier works resonate the same darkness, but always with a focus on melody and instrumentation.
ATTLAS shares about the new single with Mango, “After grinding out a very personal ‘winter album’, it was a welcome bit of friendship and sunshine to collaborate on such an uplifting, warm-day kind of record. An easy and comfortable musical overlap that’s a combination of our respective creative strengths and outlooks.”
