Raves WILL continue at San Manuel Amphitheater in the small town of Devore, in San Bernardino County.
San Bernardino County Supervisors voted against banning “rave-style” events at the venue which is operated by Live Nation. That company owns a part of Insomniac Events which has put on Nocturnal Wonderland and Beyond Wonderland at the venue since 2013.
Those living in the hills surrounding the venue complained about traffic, litter, trespassing and loud noise during festival weekends.
A 22 year old attendee died after attending Nocturnal Wonderland in 2013. Another died after going to Beyond Wonderland last year. Both died of drug overdoses.
The Board of Supervisors instructed county staff to try and negotiate with Live Nation and Insomniac Events about ending the events at 11 p.m. instead of 2 a.m. They also asked for the creation of a rave task force, similar to the one created in Los Angeles County after two teens died at Hard Summer music festival at the Pomona Fairplex last year.
A Supervisor who opposed the ban said revenue from these events helps other county parks, infrastructure and pumps millions of dollars in revenue to San Bernardino County. The festivals also create thousands of jobs and has an $15.2 million economic impact on San Bernardino County.
Some dance music blogs were quick to announce that Nocturnal Wonderland would be ending at 11 p.m. THAT is not true. Founder & CEO of Insomniac Events, Pasquale Rotella, took to Twitter to respond to the misleading story and said that Nocturnal would be ending at 2 a.m.
@AnjunaBear @Hahleena @GlobalDanceElec @DestructoHARD not true about ending at 11pm, Nocturnal ends at 2am.
