London City Airport Drops 100-Millilter Liquid Limit In UK Bid To Speed Up Air Travel

London City Airport has become the first major UK airport to drop its 100-milliliter liquid limit due to new advancements in security technology.

The high-tech C3 scanners enable more thorough screening of a passenger’s baggage and body meaning they can now carry up to two liters of liquids in hand luggage and don’t have to remove laptops or other electronics.

The hope is it will improve the process and allow airports to service 30% more passengers per hour.

The new technology is part of legislation introduced in December of 2022 throughout the UK where major airports must overhaul their screening equipment. They have until June of 2024 to comply.

UK Transport Secretary Mark Harper said about the new regulations, “By 2024, major airports across the UK will have the latest security tech installed, reducing queuing times, improving the passenger experience, and most importantly detecting potential threats. ”

The liquid limit has been in place in the UK since 2006, when a liquid bomb plot was uncovered by Britain’s police planning to detonate explosives aboard airlines headed to the United States and Canada.
