New York police detectives are facing felony charges after reportedly stealing nearly $3,000 worth of high-end champagne from Electric Zoo.
Three narcotics-enforcement detail detectives were charged after allegedly taking two unopened bottles of Armand de Brignac champagne, often called “Ace of Spades” from a VIP area.
According to the New York Times, one officer stole the bottles from a group of festivalgoers while another placed them inside a backpack.
The group who ordered the fancy champagne confronted the detectives with a festival security officer who returned the bottles and contacted the officer’s higher-ups.
Two of the officers have been suspended from duty and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, both of which are felonies.
The third is accused of failing to thwart the theft and was charged with official misconduct, a misdemeanor.
Electric Zoo 2023 has been confirmed to be taking place Labor Day weekend, September 1-3, but the lineup has not yet been announced.
