Multiple airlines are stepping up to help those affected by the devastating Lahaina fires in Maui with more flights, bigger planes, and extremely low prices.
At least 36 people have been killed and 271 structures damaged or destroyed in the Lahaina fires currently raging across Maui, leaving many locals and tourists stranded.
But as more than 11,000 passengers left Maui on Wednesday and more expected to leave Thursday, airlines are offering support to help with the evacuation efforts.
Southwest, Hawaiian Airlines, Delta, United, and Alaska Airlines are adding additional daily flights to help move people out of the area and carry supplies while upgrading to larger planes due to the increased demand.
Many airlines are also offering extremely low-cost flights including $19 flights from Maui to Honolulu or the mainland and instituting fare caps.
These fast-moving fires were fanned by strong winds from Hurricane Dora passing to the south and fueled by dry vegetation due to lack of rain.
The Lahaina fire is so far one of the deadliest in the US since the 2018 Camp Fire in California that killed at least 85 people and virtually leveled the town of Paradise.
There are many organizations collecting donations for recovery efforts including The Maui Mutual Aid Fund, The American Red Cross, and GlobalGiving.
