Ukranian DJ and producer Miss Monique will make her Essential Mix debut on BBC Radio 1 this weekend, marking an important milestone in the progressive and melodic techno artist’s rise to global electronic music stardom.
Announcing the news on Instagram yesterday, Miss Monique–born Olesia Arkusha–wrote, “When I recorded my first ever DJ mix, I couldn’t have imagined that one day I would have a chance to create my own two-hour journey for the legendary Essential Mix show.”
Miss Monique’s first-ever Essential Mix will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 and available to stream online via BBC Sounds this Friday night, February 9, 2024, from 12AM-2AM GMT (7PM-9PM ET).
Landing a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix has long been a distinguished honor in the global dance music industry. Miss Monique now joins an esteemed collection of artists who have crafted guest mixes for the radio show since it was introduced in 1993, including Carl Cox, Daft Punk, Sasha & John Digweed and many more.
Though her rise to international fame has been relatively recent, Miss Monique’s musical journey began in 2011, DJing in her home city of Kyiv. After launching her live-streamed mix series, “Mind Games” and “MiMo Weekly,” in 2013, she would soon become one of Eastern Europe’s most popular electronic artists, garnering millions of views on YouTube.
This uptick in digital popularity led to breakthrough releases on renowned labels like Black Hole Recordings and Bonzai Progressive. She started her own label, Siona Records, in 2019 and has since set off on a string of global tours, marked by groundbreaking performances for Cercle in France and Montreal, Canada.
This festival season, Miss Monique is slated for a Coachella debut in April and a return to Croatia’s Sonus Festival in August.
