After a long-awaited seven years, Rinzen has finally released his first debut album, Bend to the Light out now on Lane 8‘s This Never Happened Record label. The album is a 10-track journey that seems to transcend space and time with sonically emotional storytelling.
While Rinzen, real name Michael Sundius, released two singles from the album earlier this year, “The Pursuit” and “Burnin (ft. Shallou),” the eight unreleased tracks bring even more to the table. Many of these tracks require multiple listens to feel fully what they are trying to capture.
The album sounds like a cross-over between a score for a space movie, top club hits, and a futuristic orchestra. The use of synthesizers in “Déjà Vu” mixed with Molly Moonwater’s ethereal voice over a minimal house beat makes it one of the stand-out tracks in the EP.
Other notable songs in the EP include “Astronauta,” which is sung completely in Portuguese with synthesizers that make the track feel extraterrestrial. “Terraforming” is an instrumental track but says so much with no words. The song is a constant build, getting louder and adding more instruments as the song goes on seeming to fit in seamlessly with the movie ET or Interstellar.
In an Instagram post announcing the album, Rinzen stated that Bend to the Light ” is a belief system. It is the decision to make choices that bring us closer to the good. In our darkest hour, to bend to the light.”
This album has no skips and is a fantastic representation of Rinzen’s production ability and prowess.
