Jamie xx and Honey Dijon have teamed up to release their awaited, groove-laden collaboration, “Baddy On The Floor,” out now via Young.
Jamie xx gave the track one more live play at Coachella last weekend ahead of its official release yesterday. The London-based producer has been teasing “Baddy On The Floor” in his DJ sets since 2021, when it first appeared during his headline performance at London’s All Points East festival.
The track itself has been in the works for over three years. Jamie xx and Honey Dijon began work on “Baddy On The Floor” in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, building the tune entirely over video calls.
The single arrives days after Honey Dijon also performed at Coachella, playing a Friday night headline back-to-back with fellow Chicago house legend Green Velvet on the festival’s new Quasar stage, where Jamie xx played alongside Floating Points and Daphni two days later.
Preceding their collaboration, Jamie xx and Honey Dijon performed together at festivals such as The xx’s Night + Day festival in Bilbao, Spain, in 2018 and Jamie xx’s standalone curated show at The Warehouse Project in 2021.
“Baddy On The Floor” follows a smattering of singles from Jamie xx over the past four years, including “It’s So Good”—made for a Chanel ad campaign in January—2022’s “KILL DEM” and “Let’s Do It Again” and 2020’s “Idontknow.” Honey Dijon’s recent releases include “Stand” featuring Cor.Ece and her ensuing 2023 SLAP! EP.
After premiering “Baddy On The Floor” on BBC Radio 1’s Future Artists, Jamie xx announced on-air that he is preparing to release his anticipated sophomore album later this year. The follow-up to 2015’s In Colour will mark his first solo LP in nine years.
Earlier this year, Romy Croft—Jamie’s The xx bandmate, also known for her Fred again.. collaborations and solo project—confirmed to NME that the trio is working on a new album. Their last studio album, I See You, was released in 2017.
