As the 2024 edition of Outside Lands approaches, organizers have shared new details on the San Francisco festival’s newly revamped SOMA space, dedicated to performances from the very best selectors in house and techno.
When Outside Lands returns to Golden Gate Park from August 9-11, 2024, SOMA, previously covered with a tent, will debut in an all-new, open-air format in Marx Meadow.
First introduced as an entirely enclosed, club-like environment in 2021, SOMA draws inspiration from premier all-day parties and clubs, including San Francisco’s heralded South of Market nightclub scene.
The pop-up stage was forced to close “out of an abundance of caution” for two days in a row during Outside Lands 2023 after its floor collapsed. No one was hurt, and SOMA returned as an “open-air house party” on the third day of the festival.
Heeding these signs from the universe, new renderings of the stage shared by Outside Lands on social media showcase an expanded layout for the dance music destination, as well as a 360-degree “in-the-round” stage design. Check them out below.
“By opening up the experience to the outdoors, we’ve expanded the size and will feature an in-the-round stage design for fans to be up close and personal,” reads an Outside Lands statement posted alongside the concept images.
The stage will feature a “state-of-the-art surround system and interactive visuals,” with Outside Lands promising a “one-of-a-kind opportunity to dance the day and night away.”
SOMA’s 2024 lineup is packed to the brim with house and techno talent, including scene heroes like The Blessed Madonna and Seth Troxler, rising stars like AYYBO, TSHA and Uncle Waffles, high-powered back-to-backs like Shiba San B2B CID and HoneyLuv B2B Jaden Thompson, a rare DJ set from Idris Elba and many more.

Additional dance music performances taking place on the festival’s other stages include Chris Lake, KAYTRANADA, Gryffin and more. Find the full lineup here.
