John Summit, Subtronics, and Tape B’s long-awaited collaboration, “Gas Pedal,” is getting an official release.
The leftfield bass rework of rapper Sage the Gemini’s hit track of the same name will arrive tomorrow, Friday, August 30, as one of the most anticipated electronic releases of the summer calendar.
Fans have been begging for the track’s release since it premiered back in March during Summit’s Experts Only Miami Music Week event, where Subtronics and Tape B joined the house and techno favorite on stage in a coming together of three of modern dance music’s most in-demand artists.
Simply put, “Gas Pedal” is a sound design marvel, packed with growling low-end basslines, deep sine bass frequencies, eerie synth melodies, and the odd dub siren for good measure.
Featuring officially sampled vocals from the original hip-hop tune, which peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 upon its release in 2014, it captures mid-2010s nostalgia in a modern bass music package, underscoring each collaborator’s boundary-pushing exploits after their biggest year yet.
In between major festival appearances and a sold-out arena debut at Madison Square Garden, this year Summit released his debut album, Comfort In Chaos, while Subtronics’ dropped off his own highly anticipated sophomore LP, TESSERACT, kicking off another top-grossing album tour.
Meanwhile, Tape B has cemented himself as one of the hottest up-and-coming talents in the bass scene, fueled by his viral hip-hop-influenced SoundCloud remixes, a slew of anticipated releases on Deadbeats, such as “Trippy Land” with Mersiv and Juicy J, and dynamic performances at Coachella, EDC Las Vegas, Shambhala and more.
