Claude VonStroke will return in 2025.
The Detroit-raised producer and DJ, who put his iconic house music alias on hold a year ago to produce leftfield bass music under his other popular performance alias and real name, Barclay Crenshaw, announced in an email newsletter today that he will revive the Claude VonStroke project sometime next year.
“For some of you who have been waiting patiently, I’m bringing back Claude VonStroke next year. (my house music alias.),” Crenshaw wrote. “It’s been 12 months since the last Claude VonStroke release and I’m getting the itch again to do some new music.”
The trailblazing Dirtybird founder and former label head went on to confirm that he’ll “run both projects side by side” in the future, adding, “The Barclay project is way too much fun to stop now!”
Buzz surrounding VonStroke’s return began in July when Crenshaw returned to his VonStroke social media channels to hint at the project’s revival in celebration of its 20th birthday this year.
Though he’s released bass music dating back to 2015, Crenshaw’s full-fledged bass premiere featured the release of his debut album, Open Channel, and an ensuing headline club tour, as well as coveted collaborative releases with Of The Trees and ZEKE BEATS, and huge appearances at Red Rocks, Electric Forest, Shambhala, WAKAAN, and more.
Crenshaw’s last original release as VonStroke came in October 2023, when he dropped off his spooky Halloween-themed single “The Creeps” on Dirtybird. He’s since left his A&R role at the influential West Coast house label, which was acquired by fellow San Francisco independent EMPIRE in October 2022. Crenshaw’s last performance as VonStroke was held at San Diego’s PROPER NYE/NYD in December 2023.
