A TNGHT Reunion Could Be In The Works for 2017

Hudson Mohawke and Lunice are known for heavy-hitting bass and an affinity for hip-hop and electric synths. Put them both in the studio and you’ve created one of trap music’s most exciting and talented duos, TNGHT. Formed in 2011, TNGHT began as a simple side project for two of music’s most innovative and up-and-coming producers: Scottish-based Hudson Mohawke and Montreal native Lunice.

Both Mohawke and Lunice spend time racking up accolades all of their own. In 2013, Hudson Mohawke caught the attention of hip hop fans worldwide, signing to Kanye West‘s esteemed G.O.O.D Music. He quickly added to his list of accomplishments, crafting beats for John Legend, Lil Wayne, and Drake, and releasing his second full-length album Lantern in June of 2015.

Talented counterpart, Lunice, also rings in a hefty list of achievements. Releasing work on some of dance music’s most acclaimed labels (LuckyMe, XL Recordings, Warp Records), Lunice has connected with the likes of Diplo, Azealia Banks, and Rick Ross in recent years. In 2011, the pair formed TNGHT, melding both their talents to create a masterful duo of epic proportions.

Bringing heavy hitting bass to the mainstream with hits like “Higher Ground” (known colloquially in 2017 as the Reece’s commercial song), TNGHT dominated the trap scene, blending layered synthesizers and and snares to create forceful yet melodic sounds.

Though TNGHT announced their hiatus and mere two years later in 2013, fans have since craved for a reunion, citing their flawless performances at mega-festivals Coachella and SXSW. Despite only releasing a five track EP and one additional single in the course of their run, TNGHT gained a following that has not faltered sense. On March 7, 2017, Hudson Mohawke answered his fan’s calls, sending a message to the world (via a cryptic Instagram post) that, no doubt, quenched the thirst of any TNGHT reunion hopefuls.

With just over eight months left in 2017, it might be very likely that we see new music TNGHT before the year is over. Both Mohawke and Lunice have released their highly anticipated solo albums since the duos announced hiatus, allowing the pair to refocus on their collaboration. With the announcement that both may be returning to the studio together, we can only hope that more satisfying bass is in store for us all this year.
