EDM Maniac: 1 on 1 with Fedde Le Grand

He’s been making dance music hits for decades and has remixed songs for Coldplay, Madonna and Fatboy Slim to name a few. Now Fedde Le Grand is celebrating a big milestone – the 10th anniversary of his classic chart topping hit, ‘Let Me Think About It.’ The song features Ida Corr and it has been remixed to commemorate it’s 10th anniversary. You can check that out HERE.

I first saw Fedde for the first time during day 2 of  EDC 2010 in Los Angeles and have seen him countless times since. My friend Carinne B. is one of his biggest fans and rarely misses one of his shows. If you love house music and  have a chance to see him – don’t pass it up.

Fedde Le Grand has been touring across the country and was at Exchange LA last month. I  had a chance to ask Fedde some questions about his career and some of his answers may surprise you.

EDM Maniac:  THIS IS THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF ‘LET ME THINK ABOUT IT’. DID YOU EVER THINK THIS SONG WOULD STAND THE TEST OF TIME AND BECOME A CLASSIC?

FEDDE LE GRAND: I don’t think you can ever really know upfront. Some of my biggest releases to date including PYHUFD (Put Your Hands Up For Detroit)  I never imagined to blow up as massively as they did, I’m happy and grateful they did though :)

EDM Maniac: WHICH ARTIST HAS HAD THE BIGGEST IMPACT ON YOUR MUSIC?

FEDDE LE GRAND: I guess you could say anything funk. I grew up with my parents playing a lot of The Parliament, James Brown, Michael Jackson. I still love all that stuff, Jamiroquai, Bruno Mars..

EDM Maniac: TELL ME ONE THING THAT YOUR FANS MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU?

FEDDE LE GRAND: I’m a chocolate addict – luckily I don’t give in to it too often ;)

EDM Maniac: WHAT DO YOU PREDICT FOR THE FUTURE OF DANCE MUSIC?

FEDDE LE GRAND: I think it’s got a bright future ahead. Musically I think the climate is very open at the moment, which I personally find super inspirational, at the same time I think the search for the next ‘it’ can ease down a little more. It’s always been one trend following the other, but I believe a continously flowing trend is healthier than the massive peaks and lows we’ve seen on specific subgenres in recent times.

EDM Maniac: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FESTIVAL TO PLAY IN THE US AND WHY?

FEDDE LE GRAND: It’s impossible to pick just one, I’ve done so many. But if I have to name just one I’ll give the shout-out to Ultra – it’s their 20yr anniversary, I think it’s amazing what they’ve realized, and after all these years they’ve truly become family.

EDM Maniac: TELL ME ON FESTIVAL THAT YOU WANT TO PLAY AT THAT YOU HAVEN’T YET?

FEDDE LE GRAND: Ha. That’s a good one. It’s not one that I’ve never played yet, but I’d def like to be back at EDC Vegas.

EDM Maniac: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SONG OF YOURS AND WHY?

FEDDE LE GRAND: I think I’ll go with Cinematic. There are a lot of songs I really like, including amongst my to-release batch I’m working on, but Cinematic definitely is one of the records that spoke to me equally from first hearing the demo vocal until now. More from the beginning of my career it’s definitely Let Me Think About It that I still played our pretty regularly, I found it quite challenging because of that, to work on a polished up mix as I didn’t want to take it away too much from the original. In the end I’m super happy with the new mix and I’m very grateful with the reception the Celebration Mix got.

EDM Maniac: ANY ADVICE FOR DJS JUST STARTING OUT IN THE BUSINESS?

FEDDE LE GRAND: Don’t get discouraged! You’ll get a lot of NO’s, you won’t get success overnight, and that’s OK. It’s all part of the journey. If your heart is in the music than just keep going at it, success may be just around the corner and it will take hard work!

EDM Maniac: DO YOU HAVE A MESSAGE FOR YOUR FANS?

FEDDE LE GRAND: Thank you! Especially on the early days of the new year, I realize I’m so lucky I still get to live my music every day. I wouldn’t know how to envision my life any other way and it’s all possible thanks to you. I’d like to wish everyone all the best for 2018, may all your dreams come true and keep working hard to realize them! I’m working on a lot of new music and other cool projects to share with you this year, I can’t wait to do so and hope to see you at one of my shows this year!

EDM Maniac: ON THIS 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF LET ME THINK ABOUT IT – WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS FROM NOW?

FEDDE LE GRAND: Pffff…..10 years is a long time… I don’t know. If I still enjoy what I do and perhaps more importantly if the fans still do, then perhaps just pretty much in the same spot I’m now :)

Pasquale Rotella – I hope you bring this house music legend back to EDC Las Vegas!
