Well the dust has settled from weekend one and the celebrities have all returned home. Friends were made, flower crowns were lost and Bieber got ejected. Now it’s time to get down to business. Welcome to Coachella 2015 weekend 2, or as I like to call it, the best Coachella weekend!
Why weekend 2 you ask? First off, weekend 2 tends to have better weather. Sure the temps may be a little higher, but your risk of wind and sand storms drops. No one wants to experience Coachella in a brown out. Trust us on that.
Secondly, there are fewer celebrities. What this means is a more relaxed vibe, less festivalgoers running around to see and be seen and a generally better atmosphere. After all, we’re here to listen to music, not to gawk at Katy Perry…am I right?
Weekend 2 attendees also have the luxury of scoping out sets from the live stream. That band you thought was going to deliver an impeccable set? Caught them on the live stream and well, let’s just say it wasn’t exactly what you were hoping for. Good thing you can cross them off your schedule now. The live stream also affords you the chance to discover sets from artists you previously hadn’t heard. I know I’ll be checking Lykke Li out this weekend after that sultry set she unleashed last weekend on the live stream. Also, performers are able to essentially have a dress rehearsal on weekend 1, working out all the kinks and lulls in their set so they can truly deliver powerhouse performances weekend 2. Like I said, weekend is just better.
Here are a few recommendations we have for those of you lucky enough to attend weekend two:
Friday will see us getting deep and weird with Jon Hopkins and Pete Tong in the Yuma tent. Expect some seriously sexy vibes when these two take to the decks. As I mentioned earlier, you can definitely find me at Lykke Li’s set. Her performance is one that’s not to be missed. Later in the evening we’ll be front and center for an earth-rattling performance from Nero. Expect a bass heavy set filled with new bangers from their upcoming album. Gorgon City is also a fantastic set to catch. Weekend one saw them bring out live vocalists, including Jennifer Hudson, and was hands down one of the best performances of Friday. Closing out the night is Squarepusher and Alesso. Alesso will be bringing the feels full force with his onslaught of hits while Squarepusher plans to bring the bleeps and bloops in what is sure to be a mind-bending set!
Day two of Coachella is packed and stacked with top-notch performers. The Yuma Tent alone reads like a lesson in techno and tech house. Arrive early and catch Tale of Us. The journeys these two take listeners on are unlike any other. If you’re looking for some fun in the sun, drop into pop’s newest act at main stage and catch Clean Bandit. This set should be perfect for the afternoon. Later in the evening, we’ll be hitting the Sahara tent for the triple-header of Dirty South, Cedric Gervais and Duke Dumont. If his set is anything like the one seen last weekend, Duke Dumont is not to be missed! Closing out the night is HDYBOY nation favorites Flosstradamus followed by the highly anticipated Axwell /\ Ingrosso set. Prepare to go to progressive house heaven with these two. If techno and tech house is more your jam, head back to the Yuma tent and catch what is sure to be a blistering set from the master Loco Dice. He absolutely blew the roof off of the Neon Garden last year at EDC.
Sunday is all about one thing and one thing alone: KASKADE. One of SoCal’s favorite DJs is back to destroy the main stage Sunday evening. Weekend one saw him draw one of the largest crowds in Coachella history so make sure to arrive early to secure your spot. We even hear that he might do a REDUX set on Saturday, too! Another big draw Sunday, following Kaskade’s love fest, is Florence and the Machine. Flo may have broken her foot leaping from the stage last weekend, but don’t expect that to stop her from belting out her hits, as well as new material from her unreleased album. Closing out the night for us is none other than Gesaffelstein. If you’ve never seen this master of his craft live, this is your last chance as he’s announced he’ll no longer perform his live show.
Don’t forget to stay hydrated this weekend Coachella fans. Temps are calling for it to be in the high 90s.
