Barclay Crenshaw Shares A Taste Of His New Project With Exclusive Mix From Detroit Warehouse

Barclay Crenshaw has shared an exclusive new mix from an abandoned warehouse in his hometown of Detroit, available now on YouTube.

In an email newsletter, the Dirtybird Records founder, formerly known as Claude VonStroke, said the set “is a great way to see and hear if you are into the new [Barclay Crenshaw] project,” which the artist has been hard at work developing since announcing his hiatus from house music to focus on experimental bass.

Set in an anonymous Motor City warehouse, the hour-long mix traverses various genres from hip-hop to drum and bass with an avant-garde twist. The set also shows off an impressive production package captured with six cameras and two drones.

Ever in touch with his Detroit roots, Crenshaw even recruited his longtime friend and director Anthony Earnest Garth–known for his work with The White Stripes and Eminem–to help produce the video aptly titled I Found a Detroit Warehouse and Played Insane Set.

Building upon a sonic precedent set at various Dirtybird events and festivals like WAKAAN and Ultra Miami, Crenshaw has wasted no time advancing the project that takes on his real name.

In just one month, he has already dropped a new collab with Of The Trees, opened for Of The Trees at Red Rocks, announced a performance at Electric Forest and unveiled his Open Channel tour, which shares a name with his forthcoming album, due out this Spring.

The first single from Crenshaw’s forthcoming LP, “Big In The Game (ft. Snowy and Manga Saint Hilare),” is set to arrive on January 5, 2024.
