Legendary Duo Daft Punk Is Breaking Up

Extremely sad news coming from the electronic French duo today as they have announced that after 28 years of success, the duo is breaking up. The announcement was made via an 8-minute video titled, “Epilogue.” “Epilogue,” was uploaded to Daft Punk’s YouTube account which features a clip from their 2006 film, Electronica. Daft Punk’s publicist Kathryn Frazier, confirmed the breakup of Daft Punk but did not give a reason as to why.

Daft Punk formed in Paris in 1993 by Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homen-Christo. After forming, the duo went on to release their debut album Homework, which featured hit tracks that are still rinsed today such as “Around the world” and “Da Funk.” After releasing their debut album, Daft Punk continued to show their production capabilities by releasing some of dance music’s most iconic tunes, “Get Lucky,” “One More Time,” “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger,” and “Lose Yourself to Dance.” The duo won the best dance/electronic album at the 2009 Grammy Awards for their album Alive 2007 and also received the best record in 2014 for “Get Lucky.”

Not only has the duo released some of the most iconic tunes in dance music history, but they have collaborated with some of the biggest names in music. The Weeknd, Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, and Kanye West are just some of the artists that Daft Punk has been able to collaborate with within their 28 years of success. Daft Punk also produced the soundtrack album for the Blockbuster film Tron: Legacy, which they received a nomination for Score Soundtrack for Visual Media at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

Although Daft Punk is no longer, their musical footprint will be imprinted on the industry for decades to come.
