One of the most influential names in dance music, Destructo, just dropped his latest EP Future Funk, a four-track collection of 80s-inspired nightclub music.
The futuristic yet nostalgic EP is electro and funky, showing off Destructo’s ability to fuse 80s themes with modern beats and sounds. The collaborators add their unique twist with some elements of bass house courtesy of Troyboi in “You’re The One For Me” and Lady Gaga meets early techno on “F With Me” with Chromeo.
Destructo said about the piece, “My dad ran a nightclub in New Orleans in the 80s called the Famous – these tunes are a tribute to that era with a futuristic spin on it. I’m bringing the Funk back to House in 2023.”
Gary Richards, also known as Destructo, began his career in the 1990s as a DJ and has since then become one of the most influential figures in the electronic music scene. In 2007, he founded the HARD brand, which has since grown to become a staple of the Los Angeles scene and helped popularize the fusion between EDM and rap globally.
In the 2010s, he put this aspect into his own music fusing his electro-house style with rappers YG, Ty Dolla $ign, Kevin Gates, and Denzel Curry.
Now he’s started a new production company called All My Friends which throws festivals and events including the sailing music festival FRIENDSHIP.
