Kaytranada has become the first black artist to win the best dance album at The Grammy’s.
The 63rd Grammy Awards were presented yesterday (March 14) and Kaytranada took home the award for ‘Best Dance/Electronic Album’ for ‘BUBBA.’ Kaytranada’s award marked the first time a black artist had won the award for ‘Best Dance/Electronic Album’ at the Grammy Awards. The category was first implemented in 2005 with previous award winners including Madonna, Daft Punk, Skrillex, and Justice. Kaytranada also won the Grammy Award for ‘Best Dance Recording’ for his collaborative track with Kali Uchis, ‘10%.’
The same night as Kaytranada broke history, so did Beyoncé. Beyoncé took home her 28th Grammy Award, beating out bluegrass artist Alison Krauss. Beyoncé went on to win three other awards over the course of the rest of the night. Other winners included Bille Eilish for ‘Record of the Year’ as well as Thundercat for ‘Best Progressive R&B Album.’
