Lollapalooza Announces Partnership With Leonardo DiCaprio’s Re:Wild Conservation Organization

Lollapalooza is stepping up its commitment to going green, today announcing a new partnership with Re:wild, a wildlife conservation organization led by some of the world’s best conservation scientists and co-founded by award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

Starting with Lollapalooza India, scheduled for Mumbai this weekend, the global festival brand will share environmental education on festival grounds and through its various social media messaging channels, according to Billboard.

“In a moment when we need the world to come together to protect and restore nature as the most effective solution to the related climate and biodiversity crises, there are fewer greater convening forces than music,” Re:wild chief scientist and CEO Wes Sechrest said in a press statement.

“We are excited for this partnership with Lollapalooza to bring visibility and support to the vital and urgent work of the communities and local organizations on the front lines working to ensure that nature thrives for the benefit of all,” Sechrest continued.

Lollapalooza’s on-site environmental education efforts will include designated areas on festival grounds where attendees can speak directly with Re:wild representatives.

The touring festival, founded by Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell in 1991, will also support Re:wild’s ongoing projects–like protecting and restoring rainforests, oceans, and other ecosystems, with a significant financial commitment. The donation amount is unspecified at this time.

Throughout its three-decade history, Lollapalooza has previously partnered with other environmental organizations to purchase carbon offsets and provide free on-site water-refill stations and reusable cups that divert plastic waste from landfills, in addition to running composting, recycling and food waste distribution programs.

Lollapalooza’s flagship event, Lollapalooza Chicago, was honored with the Illinois Sustainability Award in 2017. In 2023, Lollapalooza Berlin became Germany’s first festival certified as sustainable in line with international standards.
