Strong Nor’easter Storm Cancels Hundreds Of Flights In The North East

Storms appear to be in abundance this winter as yet another bout of bad weather has delayed or canceled over 1,700 flights in the Northeast.

Heavy snow, winds, and coastal flooding are expected to head into popular airports in Boston, New Jersey, and New York affecting travel in these cities, according to CNN Travel.

More than 260 flights were canceled at Boston Logan International Airport, 220 at New York’s LaGuardia, and 120 at New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport.

Several airlines have issued weather waivers that allow passengers to reschedule at no cost for a limited time including Delta Airlines, American, United, Southwest, JetBlue, and Spirit.

The storm is called a Nor’easter, a strong weather event along the East Coast of North America named because the cold winds come from the Northeast. The temperature difference between the cold Arctic polar jet stream and the warm air from the Gulf of Mexico fuels these devastating storms.
