It’s hard to believe that it has been 6 years since Porter Robinson‘s last album. His new singles “Get Your Wish” and “Something Comforting” were lined up to be some of the top hits of this festival season. Many fans awaited the return of his music festival Second Sky, which debuted last summer. Of course, with the current world situation, we have had to accept the reality that the festival might not happen. However, yesterday, Porter Robinson announced that he will host his first performance of 2020 at his own virtual music festival called Secret Sky. It will take place this upcoming Saturday, May 9 at 11:30am PDT.
It’s no surprise that his personally curated lineup is stacked. Alongside him will perform G Jones, Jai Wolf, Kizuna Al, Madeon, San Holo, A.G. Cook, Anamanaguchi, Doss, DV-i, Grrl, Hakushi Hasegawa, Knower, kz (livetune), Lil Texas, Nanobii, Shadient, and Wavedash. Presented by Goldenvoice, Brownies & Lemonade, and Slush Management, Secret Sky will be an all-day live stream that will air on YouTube, Twitch, and Playstation via the Littlstar App.
For our viewing pleasure, Porter has created a custom-designed digital auditorium. It is built with Dreamwave technology and designed by Active Theory just for this performance. Not only will the visuals be phenomenal, but he is also taking virtual concerts to a new level by allowing attendees to interact with each other in real time using just their web browser while inside a “digital auditorium.” According to a Goldenvoice press release, “the digital auditorium will present a totally unique experience where fans can move amongst each other throughout a virtual concert venue in real time using their web browser. They will be able to see the festival stream, custom visuals from each performing artist, set times, and more.”
Even further, some of the artists will take part in a “backstage” Q&A session. Through the power of technology, we will be brought closer than ever during the quarantine.
More than good music, every great festival also has to have good food. For this reason, Secret Sky is collaborating with Postmates to offer free delivery on all orders over $10 using the promo code SECRETSKY. The offer will be valid only on May 9 from 10am to May 10 at 6am. For all orders purchased with the promo code, Postmates will donate $1 the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund to support musicians affected by the pandemic. So you can get your grub on while giving back, too!
Make sure to RSVP at secretskyfest.com for more updates. While you wait, you can get into the mood with Porter’s new Spotify playlist by listening here. The auditorium “doors” for the live stream will open at 11:00am PDT. Set your alarms! You don’t want to miss this one.
