Purple Disco Machine Wins First Grammy For Remix Of Lizzo’s “About Damn Time”

German DJ and producer Tion Piontek, also known as Purple Disco Machine has won his first Grammy for remixing Lizzo’s “About Damn Time.”

He won the award for the Best Remixed Recording category beating out legends Terry Hunter, Four Tet, Paul Woolford, and Soulwax. This was his first nomination for a Grammy. Past winners of this category include Skrillex, Louie Vega, and Frankie Knuckles.

This was the only award given to an actual dance music-centric artist under the Dance/Electronic Categories for the 2023 show. The other two awards for Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Dance/Electronic Recording went to Beyoncé, making her the most awarded artist ever at the Grammys.

Purple Disco Machine is known for his modernization of the classic disco genre, adding funky touches to remixes including “Ocean Drive” from Duke Dumont, 2017’s “Andromeda” by The Gorillaz, and 1999’s “Praise You” by Fatboy Slim.
