A Legacy of Love: Remembering i_o

There is an overwhelming feeling of sadness in the dance community today. Last night, it was announced that DJ and producer, Garrett Lockhart (i_o) had passed. The cause of death has yet to be announced, but the news of his passing has already swept through the EDM community. Our heart goes out to his friends, family, and fans. There are no words to fix the pain. However, in the face of this tragedy, we hope they find solace in the love being shown for  i_o by producers, labels, and fans alike. His time on this earth was short, but his impact will be eternal.

For those who don’t know, i_o was a Los Angeles based producer. He is known for his melodic, emotionally driven tracks. While he is most commonly referred to as a techno artist, he blurred the lines between trance, techno, and progressive house. He studied producing at Icon Collective and was signed under Deadmau5‘s label, Mau5trap, by 2017. In the short time that Garett spent under the alias i_o, he had already become an icon in the industry. Through collaborations with artists such as Jauz and Grimes, along with his own mixes, his music is and will continue to be emulated through his peers.

Since his death has been announced, many fans and DJs alike have shown their support for i_o’s legacy. His joy and loving disposition reached far beyond his genre, touching the hearts of many. These are a few of the many posts shared in the wake of his passing.

Garrett is physically gone from this world, but his memory will be everlasting. We wish his loved one’s peace and comfort at this time. We hope they see what the world has to say about the amazing legacy Garrett has left behind and find pride in his life. Life is short and unfair, but what i_o did with his time is truly inspirational. Rest in peace, Garrett, and we wish you the best in your castle in the sky.
