Summer Camp Music Festival has announced that the iconic Midwest event will take a hiatus after 2023, citing logistical challenges and competition with large, corporately run events as the basis for impending changes.

Summer Camp’s founder and producer, Ian Goldberg, released a statement yesterday, outlining how the Chillicothe, Illinois festival will discontinue “as we’ve all come to know it.”

However, Goldberg also added that a “redefined” camping and music experience presented by Summer Camp will come to Three Sisters Park beginning in 2024.

About the decision to put the festival on hold, Goldberg wrote, “Cutting pieces of it felt like leaving our children behind. So we decided it was time to put the Summer Camp Music Festival to rest. For now. We will be announcing more details on the new event after this year’s festival, but it will likely include certain elements that long-time SCampers will find very familiar.”

This year will be Summer Camp’s 22nd edition since its debut in 2001, which Goldberg said promises to be “insanely meaningful” for the festival’s close-knit community, in light of the recent news.

Summer Camp 2023 will take place from May 26-28 and will feature performances from Excision, Ganja White Night, Green Velvet, and more.

Tickets for Summer Camp’s final run in its current form are available at the festival’s official website. Read Goldberg’s full statement below.
