For those who are currently in Dublin, Ireland, you can check out a new mural dedicated to Annie Mac! The mural features the visage of the former BBC Radio 1 selector along with the send off of her final radio show:
“Life goes by really, really fast. Life is short. It thunders by. If you like the music you gotta get up and dance, Just do it!”
Local artist Emmalene Blake painted the mural on commission by the No More Hotels campaign. This campaign seeks to preserve Dublin nightlife as so many clubs and venues are closing to make way for hotels.
Annie Mac (real name Annie MacManus) shared the mural on her Instagram with a candid message about the state of nightlife in Dublin as the COVID-19 pandemic continues:
“The club scene in Ireland was already struggling with it’s spaces being eradicated, and then the pandemic hit. Now, the Irish live events sector is absolutely on its knees, with no clear roadmap back. I hope that Ireland can get it’s nightlife back soon and when it does eventually come back, that the club scene comes back stronger than ever,” Macmanus said. Check out her full post below.
MacManus left BBC Radio 1 last month after 17 years on the air. Many of her peers in dance music took to social media to honor her as she departed. Her final show will be available for playback until August 30, 2021. Listen to it in full here.
