London’s own producer and DJ extraordinaire, TSHA, just dropped her moving debut album Capricorn Sun on Ninja Tune. This record is not just a display of her sound, it’s a portal into the mind, body, and soul, of Teisha Matthews, better known as, TSHA.
Rising into the spotlight in the middle of the pandemic, Matthews, brings so much energy, groove, and uniqueness into the house music scene.
After British credited producer, Bonobo, got ahold of her 2018 single “Sacred,” adding it to his Fabric Presents compilation, Matthews started an ascension that shows no signs of slowing down.
Not just a producer, you can find her breaking barriers that define the genre as she tastefully mixes samples of live instruments throughout the whole album, connecting you a little closer to her empathic starlight, immersing you in her sound, but also in her feelings.
Capricorns are represented by the sea goat, a mythical aquatic creature that is half-goat and half-fish. In traditional astrology those who are born under this sign have personality traits like ambition, organization, determination, sensitivity, and loyalty, while also being self-critical, pessimistic, and stubborn.
“It’s fun, and I love the idea of being a Capricorn sun and how much each part of the sign relates to me and my personality. Even the album artwork, it’s me with baby goats, and each goat is meant to align with a specific part of my personality. It’s almost like I’ve called the album TSHA, but just in a different way.” Matthews shares with DJ Mag in a recent interview about the album. “Taking that Capricorn stance of ‘This is me, this is my music, this is my personality.’
