Writer’s Picks: 6 Exciting Newcomers In 2022

2022 was the first fully open year for the music industry since 2019, and the scene saw a land rush of new talent as a result.

A lot of that talent was centered around house music as tech house continued its dominion over the culture, but overall so many new producers were thrilled to share music that would finally be played in front of dancing people again.

With this level of heat coming from the new generation, 2023 is looking very healthy for the dance music community worldwide. Expect some seriously impressive music for many years to come as young tastemakers take their place behind the decks.

The writing team at EDM Maniac each chose one newcomer who made some waves in 2022 and is bound to make even bigger waves in the not-so-distant future.

1. Zingara

In the winter of 2022, Zingara broke the internet with her single “Astra”, a deep bass tune that raises vibrations with meditative lyrics.

Since then Zingara has performed at huge festivals like Bass Canyon, Lost Lands, and WAKAAN, played support for Subtronics at Cyclops rocks, won Excision’s Bass Music Initiative, and is currently on her USA headline tour. With all of these massive wins under her belt, it is exciting to see where her career will take her next. – Merinah Buller, Editorial Writer

2. Mochakk

Pedro Maia, recognized as Mochakk, is a Brazilian producer and DJ you don’t want to lose sight of. Maia gained recognition by going viral due to the majorly contagious energy he provides behind the decks.
He’s mixed his knowledge of street culture and hip-hop with four-on-the-floor beats resulting in an unmistakable and distinctive sound. From one music lover to another, you’ll want to keep Mochakk on your radar. – Paloma Abarca, Editorial Writer/MANIAC BLVCK Lead Content Specialist

3. Ben Hemsley

Ben Hemsley has only been releasing music since 2019, but his debut single “Caress Me” is insanely good as well as his remix of Solardo’s “Power.” He just has a way of making music that makes you want to dance and feeds something deep in your soul.

His debut EP “EP 1” came out this year and it’s both nostalgic and futuristic, paying homage to the past and looking toward what’s next. I see a huge come up for Ben Hemsley in the next few years. – Danielle Levy, Senior News Writer

4. Charles D

My top newcomer for 2022 was Charles D. The song that introduced me to him was “You”, it’s a dark techno progressive track that I have been playing on repeat. He also remixed Drumcode‘s label boss, Adam Beyer‘s “Your Mind.”
Adam Beyer and Bart Skils have played the remix in their live sets across the world. Charles D also had his latest release “Traction” on Drumcode’s compilation series A-Sides Volume 11 – Jobby Kurian, Staff Writer

5. Ranger Trucco

Ranger Trucco might as well change his name to Banger Trucco. You know, cause he makes bangers. The young house music savant became a staple of the US scene in 2022 with releases on Spinnin’ Deep, Club Sweat, and Off The Grid Records among others.

These tracks are heavy on the groove, but they have that extra bit of soul, that extra bit of energy that makes them unforgettable, and there is no chance anyone will be able to forget his name in 2023. – Harry Levin, Managing Editor

6. Joshwa

After dropping a modern energetic remix to “My Humps” ft. Lee Foss, Joshwa quickly gained recognition through the house community releasing on record labels like Repopulate Mars, Catch & Release, and Off The Grid Records.

His passion for club music combined with his deep understanding of music theory has allowed him to tap into exactly what dance floors need, assuring a party no matter where he is at. – Emily Harvey, Music Writer
