ZHU Drops Surprise Seven-Track ‘Musical Chairs Mixtape (Vol.1)’

The Lollapalooza crowd just got a treat as ZHU announced he’s dropping a seven-track mixtape entitled Musical Chairs Mixtape (Vol. 1), out now on Astralwerks.

Musical Chairs Mixtape (Vol. 1) features seven brand-new tracks that feel different to his past works, but still very characteristic of the artist. Collaborators include Elderbrook, Mr. Carmack, and Channel Tres.

Wet” in particular stands out due to its almost UK dubstep-style drop accompanying ZHU’s signature vocals. “I Wonder”, a highly requested song from his EDC Las Vegas set, is also more progressive house than previous works, sounding reminiscent of ARTBAT or CamelPhat at points.

The Grammy-nominated artist also revealed fans can get a cassette version of the mixtape at ZHU’s merch pop-up on Friday at Congruent Space.

ZHU says of the nostalgic tech, “When I was young, we would rip our favorite songs off the radio straight onto cassettes. I wanted to make something that reminded my fans of an era that was more physical.”

ZHU is the king of artist fashion as he previewed his own fashion line, NIGHTDAY, during his EDC set. His line combines the rebelliousness of Alexander McQueen and the clean lines of early Margiela. The name for the collection was inspired by ZHU’s massively successful debut EP, which included the Grammy-nominated hit “Faded.”
