Groove Cruise Miami just unveiled several updates for their 2023 edition including their Whet Foundation plan, mental health initiatives, and artist activities.
Whet Foundation
Whet Foundation is how Whet Travel, the company behind Groove Cruise, gives back to each destination they visit through Destination Donation excursions. All sailing “Captains” are asked to bring donations of school supplies, clothing, and other items needed for orphanages, schools, and/or a local charity that works with underprivileged children. Attendees then deliver items directly to the children and spend time interacting with the locals via art projects, music, fun activities, facility repairs, and more. It’s a unique and truly transformative part of Groove Cruise.
For Miami 2023, Whet Foundation Destination Donation will be giving back to malnourished children and families in need at Second Mile Haiti. Second Mile Haiti has built a live-in malnourishment recovery center and a family planning program to reduce maternal and infant mortality. Malnutrition affects 10% of Haitian kids as Haiti’s unemployment rate of 80% leads families to give up their children to receive proper care. There will be 50 kids and 10 mothers from the Second Mile Haiti community traveling to Labadee, where Groove Cruisers can sign up to volunteer and host activities for the community, and provide donated goods (food, school supplies, toiletries, books, toys, etc.) to the kids and mothers.
Mental Health Initiatives
Groove Cruise has also partnered with When The Music Stops to host uplifting talks and workshops and awareness around Mental Health within the music industry. Among these talks include “The Power of Journaling with Josh Donaldson & Speaker Honey” and a “Nightlife and the Struggle of Balance” panel with Baggi, Nostalgix, and Alley Kay.
There will also be a Celebration of Life to celebrate loved ones no longer with us. They will have a biodegradable wreath and note cards, where guests will meet, have the opportunity to share their story, write a message to their loved ones, and put the messages in the wreath to be thrown overboard. In many cultures, the ocean is one of the primary factors that made life possible on earth. Sending off the departed into the ocean symbolizes the end of physical life and the beginning of spiritual rebirth and can provide an opportunity for closure and healing.
Artist Hosted Activities
Lastly, several unique artist hosted activities have been released. These activities are a chance to bump shoulders with your favorite artist while creating genuine bonds and friendship with others in the community we all love.
This year’s list includes wine tasting with Markus Schulz, Corn Hole with Blastoyz, table tennis with Matroda, red light green light with Croatia Squad, and dodgeball with Crystal Skies. There’s also a “fake scavenger hunt” with Deep Fake, giant Jenga with Gene Farris, and a drum tutorial with Bam Bam Buddha of Drums Of The Sun.
Furthermore, GC Fam members can play basketball with William Black, go wine tasting with Casmalia, or play shot roulette with Chapter & Verse.
