SOHMI’s Minimal Pop-Tech Sound Shines Through On “Missin U”

The minimal pop-tech sound embodies the mind and personality of SOHMI, who guides listeners on a journey through a sea of four-on-the-floor elements, and today she invites fans on another trip with her newest release “Missin U.”

SOHMI’s production often features live instrumentation, such as guitar and bass, giving her music a warm and organic tone that sets it apart from more heavily produced dance tracks.

As she continues to rack up singles for her upcoming EP, Recital, “Missin U” is another addition with chopped-up spoken words from a voicemail she left on her co-producers phone, with a focus on drums and vocals.

“I still wanted it to feel intimate and personal, however, as every track of the EP is meant to feel sort of like a sonic page out of my diary,” said SOHMI in a press release. “It’s not an overly complex track, and was meant to capture a simple, fleeting feeling; the rush of leaving a voice message or reaching out to someone you haven’t spoken to – but have missed – for a long time.”

From establishing her own record label Permission circa 2021 to becoming the first Korean-American resident of the Los Angeles’ renowned nightclub, Sound, it’s clear that the pianist, vocalist, and producer is leaning into that momentum with no plans of slowing down.
